When winter settles into the mountains of West Virginia, Berkeley Springs turns into the kind of place that feels like a warm hug. I went for a quick two-day getaway, hoping for good food, long soaks, and a little time to reconnect—and honestly, it was exactly what I needed.

As soon as I got into town, I headed straight for Berkeley Springs State Park. The warm mineral water there stays around 74 degrees year-round, and slipping into a private Roman bath in a historic bathhouse which has been operating since the early 1800’s felt like shaking off the whole season’s stress.

Whole Latte Love

I spent the late afternoon strolling around shopping downtown with a warm drink from Whole Latte Love Coffee House in hand. The shops were cozy, full of local art, handmade soaps, and all the things you only find in a small mountain town. Everything was lit up for winter, which made it feel especially peaceful.

Dinner that night was at The Country Inn, and every bite felt like pure comfort. Good food, good company, no rush—it was the perfect slow winter evening, and it certainly helped knowing that my room was only two floors above me.

The next morning, I grabbed breakfast at Charlottes Cafe, then made my way to Atasia Spa for another round of relaxation. A hot stone treatment on a cold day? Pure magic. I left feeling lighter and incredibly calm.

In the afternoon, I drove out to The Berkeley Springs Salt Cave. Even in winter, the mountains drives are stunning.  I experienced my first salt cave treatment.  They say it is good for your lungs, and I certainly believe it.  Eastern Europeans have used this as a natural breathing therapy for centuries.

Pepperoni Pizza

The Crust Pizza Bistro

I wrapped up the trip with a warm lunch at Crust Pizza-Bistro, which served unique craft pizzas but I settled for my favorite hot honey and pepperoni.

By the time I headed home, I felt rested, reconnected, and reminded of how good it feels to slow down. Winter in Berkeley Springs has a way of doing that.
