MAC Ice House

The Ice House is the center for the visual, music, media and performing arts in Morgan County. In addition to hosting concerts, plays, lectures, festivals and arts education events, the Ice House also has several galleries and a retail shop.

About the Ice House

Berkeley Springs has accumulated many top art town titles. The exciting art scene has at its heart the Ice House, a community art center, home to the award-winning Morgan Arts Council (MAC), and a staging area for concerts, theater, a co-op gallery, and changing gallery shows.

The Ice House Artist Co-Op Gallery

The Ice House Artist Co-Op Gallery, located at the corner of Independence and Mercer Streets, is open Thursday – Sunday, 11am – 5pm.  For more information please call 304-867-3073. www.icehousecoop.com

The Ice House Artist’s Co-Op is a unique gallery showcasing and selling the work of more than 30 local and regional artists. The Co-Op Gallery is housed at the Ice House, home of the Morgan Arts Council and center for visual and performing arts of all media. The Morgan Arts Council’s formal gallery is adjacent to the Ice House Artists’ Co-Op, in the same building, and keeps the same hours of operation. The Ice House is located in the heart of historic Berkeley Springs, one of the 100 best small art towns in America.

The Ice House Artists’ Co-Op Gallery was opened in April 2000, in conjunction with the efforts of the Morgan Arts Council, which owns the Ice House and is transforming it into a responsive and creative arts center. The Artists’ Co-Op relies on the volunteer support of its members and the friendly help of the docents. The artists pay a monthly fee to staff the co-op; 20% of each sale is returned to the Morgan Arts Council for use of their gallery space.

Arts Education – School of the Arts

Since 1978, the Morgan Arts Council has provided arts education programming within the community. When the Ice House was acquired in 1996, art classes in visual arts and theater soon took hold as a complement to the new gallery and community theater space. In 2005, a dance studio was added. Youth art education evolved into after-school classes, summer art camps, and artist residencies along with arts integration programming in local public schools.
