The Story Behind Lot 12
Chef Damian Heath — recognized for years as a semifinalist for the James Beard Foundation Awards — grew up in Berkeley Springs. His culinary journey took him from culinary school in Baltimore to training in Europe and working in upscale restaurants across the South. Together with his wife Betsy Heath, he returned home with a vision: a small, elegant, community-rooted restaurant offering rustic comfort cuisine with creative sophistication.
They restored a 1913 house on the historic Lot #12, and on August 12, 1999, opened Lot 12 Public House — a dining destination that would grow to be beloved by locals and visitors alike.
Over the years, Lot 12 has gained recognition not just locally, but regionally — featured in notable publications, praised for its farm-to-table ethos, warm atmosphere, and refined comfort cuisine.
