HEY, GIRLFRIEND! THIS WEEKEND’S FOR YOU

JUNE 6-8, 2008

Art sales on the street, full immersion belly dancing, an Artwalk , women winemakers and a glass coven showcase are a few of the weekend events on June 6, 7 and 8 that flavor this come-with-your-gal-pals getaway to Berkeley Springs. The fabulous finale event is Tiara Time at Tari's on Sunday afternoon where every lady with a boa or tiara gets a free drink. The 7th annual Hey, Girlfriend getaway to Berkeley Springs, girlie capital of West Virginia, is irresistible.

With open-daily spas and blocks of unusual shops, Berkeley Springs is always attractive to discerning women, both residents and visitors. "All the data shows that women traveling with other women or alone is the hot new trend," said Jeanne Mozier, vice president of Travel Berkeley Springs, the local travel council. "It's old news in Berkeley Springs. That's why this year marks the seventh time that we've gone all out to celebrate the sisters, cousins, college roommates and carpooling moms who need time away with just the girls."

As might be expected in a top 10 art town, the fun begins on Friday with an all-day art sale on the sidewalk at Tari's Cafe that leads to an Artwalk featuring a clay show at Mountain Laurel at 5pm and a reception at the Ice House Gallery for the opening of Paint Morgan County at 7:30pm. Drumming and bellydancing in the Ice House theater liven up the opening from 7 to 9pm.

The Ice House continues to be a hotbed of activity all weekend with Art Saturdays classes from 10am to noon as well as a pre-noon walk-in yoga class. All afternoon on Saturday is a belly dancing and a drumming class. The annual Delectable Mountain Quilters show and sale at the Ice House Gallery displaying dozens of full-size quilts and smaller fabric art pieces is open on Saturday and Sunday from 11am to 5pm. Elsewhere in the Ice House on Saturday and Sunday mornings is a series of T'ai Chi and Qigong movement classes.

In between bodywork and beauty treatments like facials, scrubs and massage on Saturday, girls are invited to stop by Creekside Creamery for an
afternoon jewelry demonstration then enjoy wine and cheese at a pair of receptions, one at Jules, Enchanting Gifts and Collectibles and the other at La Luna Wine Bar where the Glass Coven debuts its work in Berkeley Springs. Saturday evening brings dinner and dancing to the sounds of the Moonlighters at the Country Inn.

For our outdoor girlfriends, meet at Cacapon State Park on Saturday for a spectacular hike along the ridgetop of Cacapon Mountain.
The vintage Star Theatre joins in all weekend long, showing "Baby Mama" at 8pm on Friday, Saturday and Sunday night. Nature Niche celebrates with a sidewalk sale that stretches both in front of the shop as well as through all three days.

Sunday afternoon fun closes the weekend. Start with Tiara Time at Tari's from 1 to 3pm where a boa or a tiara earns girlfriends a free mimosa. Follow that up with wine and cheese on the porch at Lot 12 Public House featuring the vintages of women winemakers. "We may officially end Hey, Girlfriend! weekend on Sunday," said Mozier, "but the truth is that in a town where many of the businesses are owned by women and the attractions are just what women like, it's always a celebration of girlfriends."

As if proving Mozier's words, the Country Inn -- owned by one of the town's prominent "girlfriends" -- goes all out to welcome female guests. Come during the week with a “girlfriend,” stay Tuesday and Wednesday and get Thursday night free; schedule a massage at the Five Senses Spa and get a free pedicure; and have lunch or dinner and get a free glass of house wine or other non-alcoholic beverage.

In between all the special events are the standard attractions of this historic spa town. Girlfriends can assemble their own spa tour, sampling among 53 different body treatments at six spas ranging from European facials and La Stone massage to acupuncture and mud wraps. A wide range of flavors in scrubs and wraps are the exciting new treatments this year. Dining choices are varied and where to stay depends of how many girlfriends are in the group and whether you choose town or countryside. There are state park cabins, vacation homes with whirlpool tubs, log houses on a mountain top, in-town cottages and Victorian B & Bs with marvelous breakfasts and first-rate service.

Three attributes of Berkeley Springs make it an ideal choice for getting away with the girls -- it is affordable, less than 90 minutes from the Washington or Baltimore Beltways, and filled with folks who still know how to smile.

Hey, Girlfriend weekend is part of the three-month Springfest at the Springs sponsored exclusively by Carl M. Freeman Companies, builders of a new "cool resort" in Berkeley Springs. For more information about visiting or details on the weekend call 1-800-447-8797 or check online at www.berkeleysprings.com.

Hey Girlfriend Weekend

HEY, GIRLFRIEND! THIS WEEKEND’S FOR YOU
June 2-4, 2006

BERKELEY SPRINGS, WV ---- REPORT ON 2005......In May 2005, USA Today reported that girlfriend weekends were a hot, new trend. Berkeley Springs was a month away from its 4th annual Hey, Girlfriend! weekend. The moral of this story? While the rest of the world is just catching up, we're old hands at the trend. As the pictures show, Hey, Girlfriend! 2005 was a big hit. Clusters of women roamed the streets. "Steel Magnolias" opened at the Ice House to rave reviews. Girlfriends lined up for astrological mini-readings and rotated their hips in belly dancing classes. Art was highlighted at an Artwalk and three gallery show openings and it was sold on the streets. Some brought their own tiaras and boas, others wore the "house" tiaras. Torch and Twang even lured Tari of Tari's Cafe to her own microphone for an afternoon of old time tunes.

HEY,GIRLFRIEND! 2006 has some favorite events back for a 5th time including Torch and Twang and Tiara Time at Tari's on Sunday; Wild Women Artists on the Street and mini-star readings on Saturday. Make your plans now!
